FRIEND OF THE MAA
Waterford Estate is located on the Helderberg Mountain, renowned for producing some of the best red wines in South Africa. Our region is known to produce Cabernet Sauvignon characterised by earthy aromatics, well-textured tannins and fresh finishes. These are some of the factors that contribute toward the area being renowned and distinguished for the longevity of its wines.
Adopting its name from the colour of the soils in which this specific Cabernet vineyard is planted, Antigo, meaning rose-gold, refers to the red, clay-rich soils found on the north-eastern slopes of the Estate. Compared to the Table Mountain sandstone and granite found in our other Cabernet vineyards, the grapes from the Antigo block produces wines with more plush, elegant fruit aromatics.
The Waterford range is renowned for producing terroir-specific wines. In this case, the Sauvignon Blanc is carefully sourced from vineyards in Elgin, a terroir well-suited for the growth of Sauvignon Blanc, with its slightly cooler and more elevated climate. Coming from the leading apple-producing region in South Africa, the characteristic chalky/slate soils and cool climate bring out precision in aromatics and fresh minerality in the wine and add texture and salinity to the Sauvignon Blanc.
The Marketing Achievement Awards would like to thank Waterford Estate for these sumptuous wines that were served to the marketing fraternity at this season’s Marketing Achievement Awards event and for the celebratory Waterford Cap Classique that was presented to all of our winners.
Cheers!
