Asha Patel (Ranchhod)
Head of Marketing, Google South Africa
Asha Patel is Head of Marketing at Google South Africa and Head of Ads Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa. She is a digitally savvy brand builder with over 16 years of emerging and developed market experience, both working with and leading global brands.
Asha has spent 9 years with Google, having returned to South Africa from Google UK where she led global relationships across multiple brands and categories with CPG giant Unilever. Whilst there she was instrumental behind some of Unilever’s most iconic global campaigns.
Prior to joining Google, Asha was one of the founding members of the Digital Marketing team at Standard Bank Group where she was integral in establishing their web and mobile presence and driving digital and mobile marketing across the bank’s 18 African operations. Her portfolio included the bank’s Football and Cricket sponsorships properties. Asha started her career in Marketing at Primedia subsidiary, The Mobile Games Company where she worked across multiple functions related to B2B and B2C marketing.
Asha holds degrees in Informatics, Honours Cum Laude in Business Management specialising in Marketing Management, and multiple Henley and Wits Business Schools certifications.
She has been recognised as one of Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans, is a One Young World Ambassador, a member of the UN’s Unstereotype Alliance and serves on Adweek Africa’s Advisory Council.
She has a deep love for family, travelling, cooking, reiki and meditation and is kept busy by her 2 year old daughter Mila.
